Hardened X-Stream™ Air Blade™
Product Overview
-
Air Knife for Abrasive and Corrosive environments to reduce compressed air use up to 90%
The Nex Flow™ X-Stream™ Air Blade™ Air Knife, already used extensively for replacing rows of nozzles or jets or drilled pipe to reduce energy is now available with a special hard coated surface over its aluminum body for mildly corrosive environments and to address any abrasive contact to the surface.
Priced only slightly above the price of regular anodized aluminum Nex Flow™ X-Stream™ Air Blade™ air knives these units can sometimes eliminate the need to go to more costly and heavy stainless steel units and save hundreds of dollars in cost! As with the regular anodized aluminum units, the new Hardened X-Stream™ Air Blade™ Air Knife comes complete with a stainless steel shim to set the air gap (most others use cheap plastic which can wear out quickly) and are held together with stainless steel screws.
Available in 2”, 3”, 6”, 9”, 12”, 18”, 24”, 30”, 36”, 42”. 48”and 54” lengths as standard they can also be coupled together using a coupling kit for longer spans.
The Nex Flow™ X-Stream™ Air Blade™ Air Knife has proven to be of high quality, high performance and one of the most quiet, if not “the most quiet” designs on the market for all types of blow-off and cooling applications. Eliminating a row of drilled pipe can save up to 90% of compressed air costs. See www.nexflowair.com or www.nex-flow.com for full product details and prices.
X-Stream™ Air-Blade™ Air Knife are a full flow design with rear port mounting to avoid interference with entrained air flow, optimizing air amplification and minimizing noise levels. It comes in three versions:
- Regular gold anodized for longer life.
- Hard Anodized for abrasive environments and where contact might occur with the air knife
- Stainless steel for high temperature and highly corrosive environments
- Air inlet ports on the back for a compact design and minimal air interference.
- Airflow amplification of approximately 40:1 compared to 3:1 for drilled pipe or open jets and tubes.
- Instant on-off with no moving parts, no electricity or explosion hazard.
How They Work
Silent X-Stream™Air Blade™ Air Knife - Compressed air enters the air knife at the rear (or end) ports at (A). Air is entrained at point (B) and (D) by the compressed air stream that leaves the air knife from a small gap at point (C). The entrained air follows the profile that directs the airflow in a perfect straight line to create a uniform sheet of air along the entire length of the Air Blade TM air knife. The amplified air stream maximized velocity and force is maximized as a well-defined sheet of laminar flow with minimal wind shear for reduced energy use in blow off and cooling.

Example Of An Air Saving Calculation
1. From the chart showing air flow through a hole, assume we have a pipe 30 inches long with 1/16" holes spaced 1/2" apart with a total number of 59 holes. The air pressure in the system is 60 PSIG.
2. From the chart each 1/16" hole consumes 4.23 SCFM at 60 PSIG. Total air consumed is 59 X 4.23 = 249.57 SCFM.
3. From the Compressed Air Consumption Chart a 30" Air-Blade™ Air Knife consumes 2.7 SCFM per inch or 30 X 2.7 = 81 SCFM at 60 PSIG.
4. Assuming a compressed air cost of 30 cents/1000 standard cubic feet and an 8 hour day operation for 200 days per year, the Drilled Pipe Will Cost: 249.57 cu. ft./min. X 60 min./hr. X $.30/1000 cu. ft. X 200 days X 8 hrs/day equaling $7,187.62 a year.
5. The Air-Blade™ Air Knife X-Stream™ Will Cost: 81 cu. ft./min. X 60 min./hr. X $ .30/1000 cu. ft. X 200 days X 8 hrs/day equaling $2,332.80 a year.
6. The Savings Per Year using the Air-Blade™ - Air Knife X-Stream™ will be:$7,187.62 - $2,332.80 = $4,854.82 per year!
